Charles, Frisco Whether you're a homeowner or a homebuyer, more and more of us are paying attention to home energy efficiency. Everything from insulation to your refrigerator will affect your home's energy demand. And the energy used in your home often comes from the burning of fossil fuels, which contributes to global warming and can cause smog and acid rain. The Energy Star mark is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency. To earn the Energy Star, a home must meet strict guidelines ..

Quincy program seeks to make homes, businesses, and city more energy-efficient - The Boston Globe 8 hours ago
Quincy helps homeowners reduce energy consumption Quincy homeowner Caryn Smith wanted to reduce her family’s heating, air-conditioning, and other energy costs. But for her, as for most homeowners, the question is where do you start? An equally important question: How much will it cost? Smith started by connecting with Energy Smart Quincy, a new program aimed at reducing the city’s energy consumption, and scheduling an energy audit of her home. The audit showed her 130-year-old Dutch ..

Go for nuclear or ramp up solar with DECC's carbon calculator | Adam Vaughan | Environment | guardian.co.uk 8 hours ago
.. A new nuclear renaissance on a par with France's rush to nuclear in the 1970s will have taken place and fossil fuel power stations will capture 90% of their carbon emissions[58]. This is just one picture of how Britain could hit its target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050,..

E.ON comment on energy efficiency
At E.ON we’re working hard to help people manage their energy, reducing their bills as well as their impact on the environment. We’ve recently run competitions across the UK such as Watt Watchers and Great Saves, encouraging people to increase their energy efficiency. We support people with making their homes more energy efficient and through our 2016 research project we’re also developing a 1930’s semi into a zero carbon house so we can advise people further.
E.ON comment on fuel poverty
Fuel poverty is an issue we take very seriously- latest Ofgem reports show we’re one of the UK’s top two suppliers in terms of social spend. We’re working hard to help tackle fuel poverty head on and help vulnerable groups get all of the help and support they need through our partnership with Age Concern and Help the Aged, and our community support programmes.
E.ON comment on cleaner coal
We believe that coal is an important part of a balanced energy mix but that it should be used in a reduced, cleaner form in the future. We’re investing in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), which if we can make work on a commercial scale, could stop 90% of CO2 from coal power stations reaching the atmosphere. We joined the UK government’s CCS competition and although the Kingsnorth project has been delayed for up to 2 to 3 years, we still believe that it is the best CCS coal project for the UK.
E.ON comment on new nuclear
Nuclear power is a very reliable energy source and an important part of a balanced energy mix. It is, however, less flexible than fossil fuels and there is a need to find an answer to the long-term storage of nuclear waste as well. We’ve recently formed a 50-50 joint partnership to develop 6 GW of nuclear power which is expected to come on-stream by 2020.
E.ON comment on future of energy
The next decade will be crucial for the future of energy in the UK and will be determined by the decisions we make today. In the next 10 to 15 years we’ll need to replace a third of the UK’s power stations and do it in a way that ensures that the lights stay on, that carbon emissions are reduced and that energy is kept as affordable as possible for our customers.
E.ON comment on renewables
For us, the development of renewables is essential for climate protection. We currently have 20 wind farms in the UK as well as the largest UK biomass plant and a tidal power project. Like other energy sources, renewables have their weaknesses as well as strengths which is why we believe they need to be used as part of a balanced energy mix.
E.ON comment on affordability
Keeping energy affordable as well as reliable and lower carbon is a huge challenge for the energy industry in the UK. Add to that the fact that we have to replace a third of our power stations in the next 10 to 15 years, and there are clear implications for the cost of energy. No single source of energy can meet all of these needs which is why we believe that a balanced energy mix is so important.
E.ON comment on climate change
For us the threat of climate change is very real. It poses a huge challenge to our society and we believe that we all have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint. As well as aiming to cut our emissions by 10% by 2012, we’re part of the 10:10 campaign, helping individuals and businesses to lower their carbon and become more energy efficient.
