New nuclear power has a key part to play in the move to a low-carbon economy and our approach to nuclear is guided by a commitment to safety and care for the environment.

Horizon Nuclear Power is E.ON UK’s joint venture with RWE npower UK to build new nuclear power stations in the UK. Horizon Nuclear Power is aiming to build around 6GW of new nuclear capacity by 2025.

Horizon has two proposed sites for development: the first at Wylfa, in Anglesey, Wales and the second at Oldbury-on-Severn in South Gloucestershire. In 2010, under the Government’s Draft Nuclear National Policy Statements, both of the proposed sites were listed as appropriate for development as nuclear stations.

Given the right market conditions and final shareholder investment decisions, Horizon proposes to have its first reactor, at Wylfa on the Isle of Anglesey, commissioned around 2020. A planning application at Wylfa would be scheduled for 2012, and once construction is underway this would be followed by a planning application for a second power station at Oldbury-on-Severn in South Gloucestershire.
