We use significant amounts of water in our generation business.
In 2010 work has continued across the generation fleet to ensure our measurements of water volumes discharged to rivers and estuaries meets the Environment Agency’s MCERTS standard, with certification either being achieved or equivalent standards achieved at all stations.
Following recommendations from a water audit, at our Kingsnorth power station we’re now optimising water use from borehole abstraction. As a direct result, our water use has more than halved, from 63,000m3 per month to 30,000m3 per month.
