We’re continually working to minimise other emissions such as nitrogen oxide (NOX), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and particulate matter (dust) emissions.
These emissions are produced during combustion, especially combustion at high temperatures, and can contribute to a number of environmental impacts, including climate change, local air pollution and acid rain. Emissions of these three types of pollutant have decreased sharply since the early 1990s, following the introduction of stringent environmental standards.
We are the first company in the UK to install selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to a coal fired power station - Ratcliffe-on-Soar site in Nottinghamshire - to further reduce NOX levels. On completion of this major construction project, the SCR unit will be capable of removing significant amounts of NOX from the station’s exhaust gas.
