E.ON is very proud to be awarded the CommunityMark. This is a national standard which demonstrates that we approach our community investment in a holistic way. We have a structured, planned and sustainable strategy to match the needs of the communities in which we live and work, with our business expertise.

The CommunityMark is administered by an organisation called Business in the Community (BITC). BITC has been around for about 30 years and is one of the Prince’s Charities. These are a group of not-for-profit organisations of which the Prince of Wales is President. Their remit is to support and challenge businesses of all sizes across the country to operate in a responsible and sustainable way. They operate in the most disadvantaged areas and work to bring communities and businesses together for the common good. This may be having a responsible supply chain or developing jobs to meet the business and local need. It includes high profile campaigns and helping to deliver government policy such as the Big Society.

Being awarded the CommunityMark means that we have met the very high standards set by BITC in our community activities and investment. Only 41 companies in the UK have met these exacting standards. To achieve the CommunityMark we had to show that we excel in five key areas:

  • We’ve identified the social needs that are most relevant to our business
  • We work in partnership with communities using our combined expertise
  • We plan and manage our activities and partnership to make the most of our resources
  • We work with our employees, customers and suppliers to support our programme
  • We monitor and evaluate our programme to ensure that we achieve what we set out to achieve.

Why is it important to us?

At E.ON we take our corporate responsibilities very seriously. The CommunityMark gives customers, colleagues and investors the reassurance that we are investing our resources in the right areas, and are delivering against our targets. In other words, we know what we want to do, we understand why it’s important, and we can prove that it is working. In the current climate corporate and social responsibility is even more vital, but we have to use our resources effectively. Having the CommunityMark demonstrates that not only do we do this well, we are one of the very best in the UK at doing it.
